Hundreds of children gathered today in Cardiff Cathedral for the Missio Good Shepherd Celebration. The theme of the celebration focussed on the ‘Unity of the Human Race’. It was very poignant given the tragic events in Manchester last night.
Archbishop George Stack spoke movingly of the events that had taken place overnight. He reminded the children of the oneness of the human race as brothers and sisters, and invited the congregation to pray for all of the victims, the grieving, emergency services and people effected by the events at the Manchester Arena. Everyone prayed:
God you are the lover of peace and unity. To know you is eternal life, to serve you, perfect freedom. Defend us against all assaults of our enemies that surely resting in your defence we need not fear the power of any evil. Through Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen
Archbishop George has also contacted Bishop John Arnold of Salford whose diocese covers the city of Manchester. He has assured Bishop John of the prayers and support of the people of Cardiff in these difficult times, and has asked the bishop to convey his sympathy and prayers for those who have died, for those bereaved and those injured in the attack.
