Rite of Election

As Catholics we believe that each one of has a call from God in our lives.  The Scriptures highlight this as the prophet Jeremiah relates to the reader his own call as he heard the Lord say “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jer 1:5). For a group of people within the Archdiocese of Cardiff the call of the Lord has come in a deep and personal way as they prepare for Baptism or to be received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church.

During the Season of Lent they being their final preparations to become part of the Catholic Family.  This Sunday, the First Sunday of Lent, sees the annual Rite of Election take place at St. David’s Cathedral, Cardiff.  In the Rite, these people come before the Bishop as the Father of the Diocese to be presented to him and he acknowledges the call of the Lord in their lives and they are ‘elected’ (chosen) for admission into the Catholic Church.

Also present at the Rite are representatives of the people of the diocese to offer prayer, fellowship and support to the candidates.

The Rite of Election takes place this Sunday (March 5th) at 3:00pm at St. David’s Cathedral, Charles Street, Cardiff.  Please join us at this special time in the lives of the candidates from all round the diocese.
