Remember a Charity Week: Leaving a Gift to Our Church in your Will

COVID-19 changed everything: how we worked, who we saw, the way we lived. For many, the shake- up prompted a reflection on the aspects of life that are most important to us. Writing a Will is a key way to document your future wishes and ensure the ones you love are provided for. You can include charitable gifts in your Will to people and causes close to your heart, allowing you to pass on the principles and values that mattered to you during your lifetime. A gift in your Will to the Church, no matter how big or small, is a wonderful way to support your Catholic community. That is why this ‘Remember a Charity Week’ we are asking you to ‘pass on something wonderful’ by considering leaving a gift in your Will to the Church.

There are many ways to include a gift to the Church in your Will. You could consider a:

  • Pecuniary gift – a specified sum of money.
  • Residuary gift – a share of an estate – a percentage of everything you own after any pecuniary gifts, specific gifts, debts and legal fees have been paid out.
  • Specific gift – a particular item such as a house, car or jewellery.

There are also options for who you would like to benefit from your generosity. You can leave a gift to:

  • Your local parish – Sick & Retired Clergy Fund
  • Priest Training Fund
  • Archdiocese of Cardiff for its general purposes.

We always advise you speak to a solicitor when writing your Will, but the key thing to remember is to include our registered charity number (1177272).
