Archbishop expresses “sorrow and sadness” following incident on the South Wales mainline
Wales has been shocked and saddened today following this morning’s accident on the South Wales mainline just outside of Port Talbot. Sadly the incident claimed the lives of two Network Rail engineers with a third being treated for shock.
On hearing of the news Archbishop George Stack expressed his “sorrow and sadness at the tragic deaths of two rail workers near Port Talbot”. In a message to Mr. Andrew Haines, the Chief Executive Officer of Network Rail, the Archbishop has extended his sorrow and sympathy to the families of those who died and promised the prayers of the whole Catholic community for those affected by this tragedy. The Archbishop also offered further support where needed and remembered the driver of the train, other members of GWR staff and for the members of the rescue services who have attended the scene.
The Archbishop has invited all parishes within the Archdiocese of Cardiff to offer special prayers at Masses this weekend for the victims and those affected by today’s accident.
