Monmouth schools appoint new first principal

In recent news Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools have appointed their first overarching principal for all five schools.  Mr. James Murphy-O’Connor, nephew of the late Cormac Cardinal Murphy O’Connor, takes up the position in September 2019.

A history graduate from Oxford, with a PGCE from Cambridge, he started his career at Stamford School in Lincolnshire, before becoming become a history master and housemaster at Sherborne School in Dorset.  His first appointment as Head was Sherfield School in Hampshire, a challenge.

In 2009, James became head of Prior Park College in Bath and subsequently became Principal of Prior Park Schools with responsibility for their prep school, junior school, college, and the senior school he established in Gibraltar in 2016.

This new role will see James strategically co-ordinating academic provision, marketing fund-raising, outreach and community relations across all five Monmouth schools including the Monmouth School for boys and the Monmouth school for girls.

The Archdiocese extends congratulations to James on his new post and look forward to welcoming him to the Diocese.
