Lord Murphy of Torfaen will give an important talk at The Cornerstone on Friday 1 June at 1.15pm entitled “Brexit and the Border” it will explore the implications for Ireland of the decision of the United Kingdom to leave the European Union. Northern Ireland will be the site of the only land border the United Kingdom will have with the European Union with all the complexities that will raise.
Paul Murphy is uniquely placed to give an insightful analysis of these issues. Formerly the Member of Parliament for Torfaen, he was Minister of State for Northern Ireland and then Secretary of State for Northern Ireland from 1999-2002. During his time of service in the Province he was one of the architects of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. The resolution of the question of the border between North and South will have a significant bearing on the settlement reached in that crucial agreement which has assured stability over the last twenty years.
Tickets for the talk are free and are available from the Archbishop’s P.A., Margaret Hazell by clicking the button below.
