Appeal for prayers as Russian invasion of Ukraine begins

As the world wakes up this morning to the disturbing news that Russia has crossed the border into Ukraine, two separate appeals for prayer have been issued by His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church & Rt. Rev. Kenneth Nowakowski, Bishop of the Ukraine Catholic Eparchy in London.

“Now more than ever before your prayers and your acts of solidarity with the Ukrainian people are needed.”

Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski

The actions of the Russian Federation are deeply disturbing not only for International Relations but also good of all peoples.  Jut yesterday, Pope Francis spoke of the ‘pain in my heart over the worsening situation in Ukraine’ and asked us to make Ash Wednesday a Day of Prayer and Fasting for the situation in the Ukraine.  Archbishop George Stack invites all Catholics and people of good in the Archdiocese of Cardiff to join in solidarity in response to these invitations to prayer.

The letters of both Bishops may be read in full below.
