Diarmaid MacCulloch is Professor of the History of the Church at Oxford University. He has written many books. His ‘History of Christianity: the first three thousand years’ won the 2010 Cundill Prize – his latest, just out in paperback, is a biography of Thomas Cromwell. There have been many appearances on television and radio, both as a presenter and a pundit. Many honours have come his way, including a knighthood in 2012. He believes that historians should “have a moral task”.
