Diaconate Ordination marks start of new Church year

Saturday 2nd December 2017 saw the end of one Liturgical cycle for the Church and the beginning of a new Liturgical Year.  Advent is a time of renewal and preparation for welcoming Christ at the end of time, and of course at Christmas; but for Rev. Peter Davies the celebration of the start of Advent marked another renewal and an on-going preparation in his life.

Peter had previously devoted his life in service as an Anglican Minister in the Church in Wales.  He took the decision to become a member of the Catholic Church, and following a period of discernment, began preparation for formation as a priest within the Catholic Church.  Yesterday he was ordained to the Diaconate as he continues his priestly preparations.

The ordination took place at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church in Cardiff with a celebration of Mass for the First Sunday of Advent.  They Joy of Gaudete Sunday (3rd Sunday of Advent) came two weeks early as the Church celebrates the ordination of a new deacon.

Deacon Peter will continue his preparations for priesthood over the coming year whilst continuing to service as Catholic Chaplain to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

We thank Deacon Peter for his dedication and service and offer every blessing to him and his family as he continues his journey.

Ad multos annos.
